The lack of the A/V module is the only gripe I have about the 9600. Why Apple
couldn't have included this capability, considering how expensive the 9600
originally sold for, is beyond me. Though I imagine this deficiency can be made up
with the addition of a card.

No six slot G4 upgrade problems, as some people have reported in the 9600.

The six slot problem is only shows itself if you have a g4 upgrade and want to use a
bus card in the lower(?) PCI slots. The SSE cards that xlr8 made, as well as the new
Sonnet 800MHz card, addresses this.

No argument there. Though even five slots is better than three. And as someone who
like to play games, the lack of on-board 4MB max video output is not much of a loss.
So with an 8600, like with my 7500, you're dealing with a two slot machine since you
need to add a video card if you want to play anything recent and have it rendered
decently.

I have five slots filled and within days will fill the sixth. It's not that hard to
do. ;) If I bought one of those Sonnet Trio cards it would free up one of them.

.... and if you put drives in the bottom of the box they will block one of the PCI
slots in the
9600.

True if you use both drive mounts. If you only use the furthest one, there is still
plenty of room for a short card such as a USB. Adding a few more inches to the case
height to give full clearance down there is something else Apple could have improved
on.

No doubt there. If you don't need the extra PCI slots and want the built-in A/V, the
8600 is a better buy. But then a Tsunami 9600 isn't that much more.
