Ignoring the practical issue of expense and heading straight for the
technical...

Can you confirm that the Magma actually works with the 9500 or 9600?
If so, what size of chassis? Based on my experiences with the Umax
S900 and its PPB (which is the same chip that allows the Magma to
expand PCI) I believe there is a flaw in PowerSurge ROM which does
not properly support PCI-PCI Bridge chips on the PCI bus.

Specifically, it will support a single PPB such as will be found on a
FW/USB or dual channel SCSI card, but if you try to build a hierarchy
(daisy-chain) of PPBs the host machine freezes during PCI
initialization under most circumstances, i.e. a grey screen freeze.
There are a few exceptions involving installing only one PCI card or
using only PCI cards without on-board drivers such as ethernet and
USB cards.

However, I'm not 100% certain I have the underlying cause nailed.
Some experimentation with a 7 slot or greater Magma would go a long
way to identifying the nature and extent of the problem.
