Possibly, most ATA cards in an Old World machine are affected by the 8 GB size barrier so you either have to go back to SCSI or find a compatible ATA card. It sounds like your card is working, though, since you can see the entire capacity of the disk. Just to be safe, go into Drive Setup and check and see what it reports as the size of the drive. Anything radically different than 40 GB (like 504 MB, 2 GB, 8 GB, 137 GB, 2 TB, etc.) is a definite red flag. Are you using an 80-conductor IDE cable? It's necessary when running above the ATA-4 (33 MB/s) specification (which you are). It shouldn't cause errors if you're not, as the controller would notice that and change the transfer mode accordingly. Is the cable loose or damaged? I almost shipped the family PC back to HP (P.S., they suck) only to find that the IDE cable had been ripped. (All rounded cables are 80-conductor.) Your disk could also have been damaged. I doubt it, but download Maxtor's diagnostic tools from their website (if they have some; they should). -- Colin -- PCI-PowerMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
