<<I hope listens aren't worn out from this thread, caused by my 8500, but I
have to get these things right, . . . . >>

Not at all.

<<*I checked two other CD drives and saw termination jumpers on them. That
seems to fly against what has been discussed, however, I reread Glen's post,
that Apple Cad's have no termin.jumper, only Term.Power, and whether it is On
or
Off is okay. I saw HD pin prs. TE and TP; termin.=

-enabled, and termination-power. Can someone explain the differences?>>
--------

As often said "Google is your friend" A quick search for "SCSI termination
power" revealed:
http://www.lowendmac.com/tech/termination.shtml
at the top of the list. And many other links as well. The link above is dated
but so is the 8500.

I would set your CD to the default settings which IIRC includes having Term
PWR and Parity jumped.

Seer speculation on my part but stock Apple CDD's my be self terminating so
you may want to take termination off your HDD and re-cable (if possible) so you
CDD is the last (terminating) drive on the chain. I don't know if this will
work but it may be worth a try as a last resort.

<<I'm still on a 6100/G3/240MHz Sonnet; it has the [PCI] posts. The cpu
temperature
was 130=B0, compared to my 8500's operating temp. of 100=B0. I don't know
what is
too high for cpu's; one spec. sheet said 50=B0C is t= ops, so I ripped a 286
peecee fan
and mounted it under the case intake venting= =2E I patched into 12v. of
CD-ROM plug.
Noisy, but now stays @114=B0/46=B0C.>>
--------

My 6100/G3/300 MHz NewerTechnology is running at 150 F as I write this and
has done so for years. Don't know about Sonnet Max temps. In addition to what
you have done you can also place container lids under the case feet (I'm using
ones from cat litter containers) to prop the case up an extra 1/2 inch for
better ventilation. You can also tie a small fan around the post near the 601
Chip
but I don't know if that will do much good.

<<Flatpac Macs are so darn e-z to access. Do 8500 mobo's fit into 7300's? I
like the 8500's roominess but it's a helluvahassle to get to that mobo
unplugging and re-plugging; but I don't mind, now that the 8500 is alive!=>>

It will fit in the case but the 7300's power supply will not mesh with 8500
mobo. The 8500 mobo will slip into a 7200, 7500 or 7600 with no PS problems.

Don't know if it is possible to transplant both mobo and PS from 8500 into a
7300 case. I never tried it. Most likely someone else will know. --glen
