(To the List "nanny": forgive me this one reference please because it definitely involves my 6500). I want to switch my Macs from one room to another (my 6500 to a bedroom & the G3 running OS10.3 to the living room.) I intend to maintain the Classic Environment on the "new" one & would like to just attach the aux. HD I have on the 6500 to the other Mac. Now, I have a complete back up copy of my 6500 HD (sans a few recent things) on the Aux. HD & would like to be able just to keep it where it is & hook it to the new one. However, I would like to be able to partition it without removing all the info on it? As I am running OS 9.1 (& will have to upgrade to OS 9.2.2 before the other Mac will run the Classis) I understand that the Apple Screen Picker will not work with the OS 9 or 9+ setup. Is there any other way to partition this HD without wiping it clean? I can do it, of course, (I have reinitialized my built-in HD from scratch) but it would save me a lot of time if I didn't have to "recopy" everything to the Aux. HD.
I have so many Classic Programs that I am not about to "junk" them just because I inherited a newer Mac., things like an Astronomy Program that allows you to pick from "where" you would like to view the Universe--such as from Venus instead of the Earth, a lot of Language Programs, Great Museums of the World, an entire copy of the Bible with more than one "translation & commentary", etc., etc. And I will not buy a newer version, even if available, just to accommodate OS 10. LOL! I LOVE my 6500. I've had it about 7 years & it's solid as a rock. Besides, there's nothing I'm interested in doing that I can't do on it! But I couldn't "look a gift horse in the mouth", so took the G 3 & have already done some upgrading on it. LOL. Since I have it, I would like to partition the Aux HD to accommodate both OS 9+ & OS 10+. I have a new foreign student moving into that bedroom, so need to do some switching of computers.
