Thanks for all the replies.  I posted the original "compatibility" question.  
Yes, I do have a PCI graphics card (ATI Radeon 7200 or other), a FW+USB 
expansion card, and an IDE controller w/a Sony CD/RW,DVD ROM and 120GB Maxtor 
drive.  SCSI chain contains a 2GB apple HD drive, floppy, 9GB IBM SCSI drive. 
Sonnet Cresendo G4/750 accel, and close to 540MB RAM.  I put the 8600  away 
because I starting using a PC, which had more expansion slots, but I recently 
found out a 9600 has more PCI than the 86, and I am expecting the delivery 
soon.  I plan to use it to replace the 8600, and transfer the 8600 innards to 
the 96, and I can use more PCI video editing, tv-card and a fan card.
