Hi all. I knew I would have XP problems, but not like this. I finally got around to installing it, and I can't even get SP1 installed, it keeps saying I have an invalid product ID! This is EXACTLY what is happening here; http://www.labmice.net/WindowsXP/articles/changeID.htm I did those steps and even VERIFIED it ok, and no surprise it doesn't work.
This is XP Corporate Pro, and if it didn't have a valid product ID then I would never have been able to install it! This sounds like a common problem, so what are we supposed to do? -Clint
Clint, have you contacted MS to get a new ID? This is usually the best course of action with this issue, provided you actually have a legitimate item.
Does your key/ID match either of the bad keys stated in the article or does the key begin with FCKGW?
You can install XP perfectly well with your key, it's just the SP1 won't install if it deems your key is a pirated key, it may be legitimate but Activation has been known to hiccup from time to time :/
Email MS or call them to have a new ID created for you if you believe you are a victim of privacy or their crappy Activation application :)
