Hi Larry and all, "I also disconnected the port from the back of the computer which also did not help." I'm not sure what this line means exactly, but you should check that the cable running from the interior side of the LPT port to the motherboard is attached. Reseating it might be necessary. Look for missing or multiple instances of hardware in Device Manager while in Safe Mode. (You might not see them normally). Its unlikely you changed the LPT choice in the BIOS to be disabled. Even if one loses power to the BIOS, the default choice is typical enabled (bidirectional, EPP, ECP), but a disabled choice would certainly make it disappear!

This is not my computer but a friends. They have Win 98 and we installed a different printer and its driver which worked on my Win98 systems just fine. Now when we look at printers the Epson 640 is dimmed and when I go to device manager and choose ports I do not see the LPT1. I have tried capture to no avail and I am not sure if the port is defective all of a sudden or what. I also disconnected the port from the back of the computer which also did not help. I also reinstalled the drivers for the Epson 640 which also did not help. I will change the cable next. Any thoughts on how to troubleshoot this. It worked the day I installed it. ============= PCWorks Mailing List ================= Don't see your post?
