I have the filter in my list of items in the PDF service folder and its there in the PDF button on the print dialog box. Still cant get the filter created to work though I have followed all the steps in the article, a PDF services folder is created and working as I have other scripts in there for mailing PDFS, etc. but I still cant save a file from within panther as a PDF/X-3 document following the instructions in the article--it wants to send the file to the printer and gives me a printer error in some applications and doesnt seem to do anything other than look like its printing pages but nothing happens after it goes thru that step. It also appears other people cant get it to work either.
If someone who has gotten it to work can write up exactly what their settings in each dialog box and exactly they set it up it would be greatly appreciated.
As far as I can tell right now following all the suggestion everyone has sent me, the only answer is for me to use a pre-flight tool to get the X-3 compliant file. I thought the whole point of the article was that I wouldnt have to purchase such a tool and that I could make "press--worthy" so if someone could clear this up that would be great. Someone pointed out it might be a Panther problem to be repaired in 10.3.2,

You should have some items in the menu, one of them with the name of the filter you created.
and opened the document in Acrobat and the document properties say "Quartz PDF Context" which tells me its not X-3 compliant.
Why would it saying "Quartz PDF Context" mean anything about PDF/X-3??
Since it was created by Quartz - that is EXACTLY what I would expect.
You need to use a preflight tool such as Acrobat 6's, or Apago's PDF/X Checkup...
