i leave it on all the time. it costs extra processing though, so if you are shooting in the range where it is used (anything from 1/4s and longer) then it adds a lot to the time it takes before it stores the image onto the card. this means it is using up battery life. aside from that, i know of no other disadvantages of having noise reduction turned on all the time.
