You're right, there is usually a lot of digital manipulation of the film images, even if its just a matter of tiny details like removing or extending a highlight, enriching blacks, etc. I think what Bob was saying was that the transparencies that result from such highly controlled shoots are nearly perfect, and that too is correct.
