On 20/8/04, Caveman, discombobulated, offered: >Any brands/models that are recommended or that I should absolutely avoid >? I'm looking for 512 MB or 1 GB cards and a CF card reader to connect >to the USB (2.0) port.
One thing that I noticed on cheaper card readers is that sometimes the card doesn't locate exactly on the little guide rails and you end up having to persuade it on with two hands rather than just pushing it in with one. This is extremely annoying if you have your card reader tucked up a little nook one one side of your work area. The very cheap ones don't even have a little button to push that helps eject the card a short way to enable it to be retrieved easily. Sounds picky but if you have seen a few card readers and actually used them, you'll know exactly what I mean. I have a Lexar Firewire reader. It is superb. And not beige.
