I read a book about Adams life a while back. Believe it or not there were a lot of snapshots taken by him of friends and family with a hand held roll film camera. He used everything from an 11x14 view camera on down to a minox. He became fameous for a particular type of photo, but that was not the only thing he did. Not by a long shot.
Ansel made his living as a commercial photographer until the art sales were sufficient to support his lifestyle.
