I prefer uninsulated leather boots (YMMV) and two pair of socks. I like synthetics against my skin. The second layer can be cotton, wool, whatever. There are lots of options for the base layer, though. You might try a winter hiker from Thorlo. Additionally, I really like these: http://www.nbwebexpress.com/detail.asp?type=MNACSK&style=SK320 Buy your boots one-half to a full size longer to accomodate the thicker socks. When the temperature is above freezing I wear an inexpensive mechanic's glove. They're flexible and unintrusive (but not water resistant at all). You can find them with several different brandings, but they're all about the same. I buy the Kobalt brand from Lowe's for about ten bucks per pair. You can find them in the tool section near the sockets. When it's really cold I just deal with the bulk and go for something like this: http://www.duluthtrading.com/items/98987+MED.asp > > I have never had a problem shooting with a camera in the heat.
