I must confess too. A friend is going to Vanuatu for his wedding anniversary and wanted a new DSLR. He only had an optio digicam, and no lenses. I _wanted_ to recommend the DS, but really could justify it except for the $500 difference with the Canon 350D/18-55mm kit.
The only other two reasons I had were the Limited lenses, which he is not likely to buy, and the viewfinder. He tried both cameras and couldn't see much difference in the brightness or size.
