Addendum to my previous post, Photoshop sould be smart enough to assume that an image without a profile is sRGB.
An image with no profile is an un-colour managed image, and Photoshop will treat it to whatever it has been told is it's default colour space (I believe Adobe RGB if you haven't changed it from the default setting).
After that, you can assign a profile if you desire.William Robb
