Hi, Bob.

Yes, I think this method (which involves removing just the aluminum collar
assembly for surgery, which makes it very easy to keep any possibility of
aluminum filings out of the lens innards) seems to be the best.

I didn't try this previously, because I wasn't sure if the rear element was
totally separate from the K-mount flange, but I did find on a previus
operation (where I took the entire K-mount flange off the the rear element
is only just centered in the opening of the flange) that one could whittle
away at just the aluminum collar assembly.  [However, I don't know if this
is true for all old VS1 designs.]
