Hi Bruce ... Thanks for your helpful response. I've never shot the DS with NR on - I may try that to see if there is any change in the speed.
What strikes me is how outdated the D is in some regards, yet for an anachronistic camera it seems to still do a good job for many people. Yes, the DS is quite a bit faster, and the DS2 faster still. And while I didn't think the speed would make that much difference to me, considering how I usually shoot, I found that it is helpful at times. The DS/DS2 could use larger buffers as well.
