Identical does not exist.
Even two lenses from the same production series can show small differences.
We are talking marginals here - something along the line of 1-2% difference
between the measured results. Differencies this small can still exist, even
for identiacl optical formulas. Mechanics can be more or less accurate too.
Even the politics conserning the final quality control may differ from on
month to the other.
I know, that the German lens testing lab, run by FotoMagazin, tests more
than one sample of the SAME lens, in order to determine a reliable test
result. To rule out "monday" versions.

The F 1.4/50mm was in production 1989-1991
The FA 1.50/mm was in production 1991-2004

So, there's up to 15 years between the first F 1.4/50mm and the last FA
1.4/50mm.

I had the F50/1.7 and bought the FA50/1.4. If the F version of the f/
1.4 is the same as the f/1.7 mount, the FA is a better lens mount in
feel and finish to me. We know the optics are identical.
