That's true.
But we are talking about the difference between absolutly top nodge of 50mm
lenses. The differences has to be very small.
Still, If I had the choise between an FA and an F, I choose the F.

BTW - you are right about out of focus rendering. I find that the Limited
lenses are really good in this respekt (comparred to my K 135mm and K
105mm).

I found that the out of focus rendering of the old A 1.4/50mm  wich I have
now sold, to be very pleasant.
Don't tell me hat this too is the same lens design...:-)

Trying to argue a case on unit variations is silly. Unit variations
are obviously embedded in any production of multiple units.

My use of the word "identical" is simply an emphatic way of saying
that the lenses are as like as a production run of optics can be.
Variations in lens performance in the 1-5% range is not visible in
the output unless your purpose is to record test targets and evaluate
lines per mm captured.

The difference between these lenses is the design of the mount. If I
printed an equally well exposed and rendered 13x19 inch print from
each of them, you would not be able to tell them apart unless the
scenes printed were specifically those that exaggerate the different
qualities of the f/1.4 vs f/1.7 designs in out of focus rendering.
