Thanks for all the input! I downloaded irfanView ages ago but never installed it because I didn't think it could really do anything. Wrong again... I'm presently renaming all my photos with a six digit serial number, which at my current rate of consumption should be good through my seventy sixth birthday (I'm 18 now so I have a long way to go), using irfanView.
