But it was left out for cost reasons: Even at a very lowball estimated 
cost of $5.00 per camera, that's $50,000.00 extra expense on a 
production of 10,000 units. Pentax clearly believes there wouldn't be 
enough extra sales generated to justify this cost.

Moving to the future just happily coincides with this reality.

Be prepared to say goodbye to aperture rings on all new lenses soon.
(We may indeed have seen the last Pentax lens with an aperture ring 
already.)
