Thanks, Brian. It is unfortunately a no-go for me then. You saved me a
bit of time.

However as far as I remember, usually first comes out the Linux
version and Windows binaries come a bit later. So perhaps you have
downloaded some earlier version that does not work in 16 bit color.

But now I am on alert and I will monitor GIMP more closely.
