That's certainly one of the disadvantages that I've found with my 4/3 cameras. Although the viewfinders are pretty good, manual focusing is far easier on something like the LX or MX. The Olympus E-3 magnifies the viewfinder image 1.5 times, which is an improvement, but still not up there, and one of the reasons why I'm interested a rangefiner digital camera. But I still prefer being able to compose then focus on ground glass anywhere within the viewfinder.
