Allison,

I cannot vouch for your photographic style and taste, but I can tell you my story. I had 17-28 fisheye lens which is film era predecessor of 10-17. I used it a number of times and it was fun, but quite soon I grew bored with it and had to sell it.

As far as 50 mm goes, it appears to be my favorite focal length. I have FA 43/1.9 Limited (highly recommended) and A 50/1.2 which is currently my most used lens. To that end, I'd recommend that you prefer a 50 mm lens to the fish eye.

If however you need to go wide angle, then I would humbly suggest that you consider a rectilinear lens, such as DA 12-24/4 (highly praised on this list) or DA 21/3.2 Limited which I happen to have and which I also like very much.

Back in 2007 I traveled to Prague on occasion of my boss' wedding. I took with me 43 and 21 mm lenses but I broke 43 lens on the way. So I did all my shooting with 21 mm and it was very convenient. I had to borrow my co-worker's F 50/1.7 for some indoor shooting, but everything else was done with 21 mm.

However your taste and style almost certainly differ from these of mine, so that you should take my words with appropriate skepticism.

Hello all,

So, the first past of this is a test, because I have send 4 messages to pdml@pdml.net in the past 2 days and not a single one seems to get through. I am on a mac using mail, so I don't know if that means I need to do something special, but this is my last try to get messages through.

I was wondering what a good price for a used 10-17 fisheye would be. I am looking at one for $320 (plus $15 shipping), which is much better than the $389 listed on amazon, but the amazon lens is new. I have never purchased a used lens before because my older lenses came from my dad. I also would like some opinion on whether I should buy the fisheye now or if I should wait and buy a 50 1.4 new instead. Decisions, decisions....I may have a wedding in March (a friend, minimal pay but enough to cover one or the other), so that is why I am looking at new glass.
