FYI, the KM was replaced with the cost reduced version, the K1000
which was a smash hit. The KM is essentially the same camera as K1000
but with
a depth of field lever on it. I guess the KM was too expensive when
it came out compared to their other models or the competition.

Accordint to Bojidar, the KM was introduced in 1975, discontinued in  
1977 ... a two year production run. It was replaced by the M series  
cameras, which lasted a decade or so, starting in '76. It barely even  
existed by modern camera standards.

I sold cameras during that time period at a volume camera vendor, on  
an occasional basis. They never even carried the KM that I recall; I  
didn't know about it until I researched Pentax cameras in 2004-2005.  
The only Pentax cameras I recall people buying were the MX, ME, K1000  
and LX.
