Are you turning the camera off when changing lenses?

According to page 67 of the K20D manual you only get the prompt
to supply the focal length when the camera is power cycled; simply
changing lenses while the camera is in use doesn't seem to be enough.
(That matches the behaviour I observe on my K10D).
