On the Leica M8 I have no real choice but to use the IR cut filters because of the celebrated cock-up with the sensor. I have however always used UV or clear filters to protect the lenses from grit and such like. I find myself reluctant to remove the filters. In bad weather filters cause condensation in the gap between them and the lens, so I take the filter off in that case. > As someone once put it, it's like using a condom.
