Most of my writing is, well, frivolous. Not this time. Kids are dying
in cars at an unprecedented rate. As unbelievable as it sounds, those
deaths are often caused by a simple memory lapse. The Times asked me
to look into it. The article appears in tomorrow's paper, and it's up
on the web now.
Our own Ken Waller served as a very valuable resource, and he's

Good article.
The child safety seat with the built in sensor & key fob alarm the NASA
guys were designing sounds like it should be feasible to develop quickly
and it doesn't add any additional cost for the average car buyer. Those
who have a child in a child safety seat have the alarm built in, but
those who don't have children aren't forced to pay for something they
don't need.
It also seems like it might be the least expensive solution.
That's kind of a rare combination where the best performing solution and
cheapest solution are one and the same.
