Bruce, They do much the same thing. Disk Inventory X is freeware and a little less innovative in its UI approach, and operates more slowly. I don't think it's been updated since Mac OS X v10.3. Daisy Disk is commercial for $20, has a more useful and informative UI, well supported by its makers, and is up to date for Snow Leopard.
