For color portraits, I used Portra 400 or Portra 160 in the natural tonality versions with my 6x7. In BW, I used a lot of Plus-X, although that is now extinct.

Since you are going to scan, I'd try some Ektar 100.  I have had good
luck with it in 35mm.  Here is a sample scan:
