The moon pictures I looked at all have histograms displaced markedly to the
left instead of being spread out across the entire horizontal axis - meaning
they're somewhat under exposed. Attempting to spread out the histogram
in-camera by making exposure adjustments will brighten the captured image -
failing that the captured image histogram can be spread out in PS using
'levels' adjustment.
I generally expose to the right (highlights) & let the left (dark point)
fall where it may.
