I agree that it would be preferable for Facebook to have made facial recognition an opt-in feature, and they may well do that since there has been some discontent. However, I fail to see any real downside to it. Once you're logged in, the system already knows who you are. In any case, I suspect it will be short lived, as many users don't post a current photo.
