Larry, colors of both sets appear unnatural to me. But, frankly, I
prefer the first set, because I'd rather leave the light
yellowish/warmish as it probably were on the set rather than trying to
force-fix it to look normal.
Your technique is in principle valid. It is what Topaz uses for their
tools - you do what you do, then you click on it, it exports the TIFF
and opens a Topaz app with it. You play with it, save it and voila - it
is back as a copy of the same file in your LR.
