There's been lively discussion about it here and elsewhere.

I'm pretty sure that it's a good thing.

I'm also pretty sure that one of the big assets that Ricoh is looking
for in acquiring Pentax is the Pentax USA infrastructure ... Ricoh
pulled their camera distribution out of the USA a decade and some ago
for lack of proper infrastructure to support it, so acquiring Pentax
here nets a relatively inexpensive way to get that back, now that they
are intent on selling more cameras here again.

I look forward to seeing how this develops.
