Well, I don't know iMovie at all (I use FCP7) but there should be a way to export a still frame I would have thought. Failing that, use some excellent freeware called Mpeg Streamclip (link to software in next link, below) which can be used to convert formats and will easily handle stills. Any video editor will have Mpeg Streamclip on his/her Mac or PC. Can't recommend it enough.
