Pentax was originally a brand name of Asahi Optical before it became a company
name so I guess that we are really just going back to the way it started.
Remember that there was Heiland Pentax and Honeywell Pentax as well as Asahi
Pentax. Interestingly, according to wikipedia, back in the late thirties Ricoh
acquired a completely unrelated camera company called Asahi Optical which
existed at the same time as "our" Asahi Optical. I knew that Asahi ("Rising
Sun") was a very common company name in Japan but hadn't realised that it
extended to multiple companies in the same field.
