Quoting Jack Davis <jdavi...@yahoo.com>:

I've enjoyed (?) the Trail Ridge Road drive which exceeds 12,00 feet in elevation in some areas and constitutes the longest high elevation drive in the US. In order to make this claim, it also includes a bit of Estes Park.
Can keep one focused.

Steve Harley suggested Trail ridge Road to me when we were travelling between Frisco and Cheyenne in mid May. Sadly it was still closed.

The alternative through Walden and Laramie was pretty good though - and the burgers at the River Rock Cafe in Walden were superb :-)>

Driving a convertible along a coast road is one of the greatest pleasures life can afford.

Even somewhere as humble as West Dorset is magnificent. The Basque coast is utterly wonderful, and I've seen something of the superb Pacific coast when I spent a week in Santa Monica.

But the very best of all, without a doubt, is Chapman's Peak in South Africa.

From my dim and distant memory, one of the most beautiful aspects of
California is without doubt the coastline, as anyone who has ever
travelled along Highway 1 will confirm. The cool sea breezes bring moist
fog onto the shore by day and walking amongst the Sequoia and Redwood is
not to be missed! I especially loved the shoreline and when I eventually
make my pilgrimage back to the state - most likely within just a few
short years now - it will feature heavily on my agenda. To the point
where I want to spend a week in a beach house nestled amongst the trees.

BTW in case anyone's interested, there is a 1990's book called
'California Beach Houses' (p. Chronicle) that has some wonderful
photographs in it. Primarily of the architecture but also of the
surroundings - a real inspiration and if you like this sort of thing on
your shelf - highly recommended. Cheap used too!
