Hi David -

Thanks - I'm glad you liked the site.

I've used a variety a methods for the snow flakes. Most recently I've just
used a reverse mounted 50mm (I tried both the M 50mm f1.7 and M 50mm f4
macro) on a bellows with tubes for additional extension - enough extension
to get the magnification up to ~6x lifesized. This was all put on an Mz-S
and an AF360FGZ was shot up through the snowflake. A piece of blue plastic
over the flash makes the blue tint. The flakes are caught on microscope
slies just set out when it's snowing. The P-TTL on the Mz-S works with
this setup - with the Pz-1p I was not able to get to get TTL to work with
this much extension.

In past winters I used a similar setup but manually figured the exposure by
calculating the effective F Stop (taking into account the extension) and
measured how far away to place the flash - I did a lot of bracketing with
this setup. I also experimented with other means of getting the
magnification - like reverse mounting a 50mm on either a 200mm lens or 135,
and then putting it all on extension. Ultimately, I think the reverse
mounted 50mm is the sharpest.

Cheers -
