I think those buttons are at the top of the "message pane". Top left is
a list of folders; Top right has a list of messages; the actual messages
are all the way across the bottom half of the Thunderbird window.

I have [Reply] [Reply List {down arrow}] [Forward] [Archive] [Junk]
[Delete].

The {down arrow} gives me Reply List -divider- Reply All and Reply.

If you right click just under the buttons on the top of the message
pane, you get "Customize".

Select that, and you can drag the buttons around, drag them off or drag
new buttons on. The button that says "Reply List" changes to "Smart
Reply" while you're in customize.

If you drag the "Smart Reply" button to the left in "Customize", it swap
the location of the "Reply" and "Reply List" buttons when you click "Done".

That might help if you're used to clicking the first button to reply to
PDML. I don't think it will cause any problems if you click "Reply List"
when you are NOT replying to a list message.

I have to do it for my replies to go to PDML and for my replys to show
up in my PDML folder in my inbox, which is where I want 'em. But my
mouse just gravitates to the REPLY button I'm used to hitting...

and when we get a good pun thread going it really sucks :-)

I've had no problem adding "reply to list" to the Menu toolbar. I
just dragged it from the Customize box to a position between Reply and
Reply All. In addition, if you usually use the Reply located in the
message header you can try this: Open the Customize box for the
message header. You'll note the Reply List now says Smart Reply.
Drag the Reply button back into the Customize box and close the box.
The Smart Reply has now changed back to Reply List, but if you click
on the down arrow next to it you will have the options to Reply List
(the default), Reply All, or Reply.
