I've taken my bourbon both ways, enjoy them both but generally prefer not to dilute, especially the really good stuff.

There was at one time, a radio program on the CBC called Ideas. One Robbie
Burns day there was a series of interviews with cellarmasters from the
major distillers in Scotland.
Every single one of them indicated that whisky should be diluted somewhat
with water. They all had their own recommendation regarding how much,
varying  from 25% to 50%, but the message from each was the same.
I don't know if it's the same for whiskey, but I do find I prefer bourbon
over ice rather than neat.
