Ivan,
Hear you loud and clear, already told the Altium rep the same story,
how they are shooting themselves in the foot. If we are looking at $11,000 per
seat when the time comes, that opens the door to all sorts of possible options.
Like you say, if there is a significant learning curve, might as well consider
all contenders.

Actually I have done some evaluation of DXP over the weekend and today,
maybe the learning curve is not so steep these days. Maybe the early adaptors
didn't have the same Query building tools, Find Similar Objects and Inspector
panel functions that now exist. Query language doesn't scare me any more from
my experimenting, as a matter of fact just 1/2 hour ago I asked my Jr guy to
watch as I did a global change with no more problems or difficulties than in
P99SE.

ASOP Fables, I like that. Ivan is still king of the funnies!

Sincerely,

99SE user here. No calls here yet. But we don't have a lot of licenses.

Way to go Altium, remove another incentive for me to upgrade, why don't
you? You may think you are pressuring me into upgrading now, but what you
are really doing is removing my incentives to upgrade when I am ready
(later). If I get no discount for being a previous Protel user, and face a
big new learning curve anyway, I might choose something else. There was an
article on gEDA in Circuit Cellar Ink a few months back, IIRC.

As far as never setting a date, I think it's a case of Altium throwing
stuff against the wall and seeing what sticks and what doesn't. In
otherwords, Altium's Standard Operating Procedure (ASOP). When Altium
tells you something, it's likely just another ASOP fable ;-)
