Norman, Our schematic library is about 1.5Meg and footprint library about 5meg. To me those sizes are not outrageous. One thing that is important when using sourcesafe with .ddb files is to make sure that the 'Compact Design after closing' is enabled. You will find that option from the design explorer - down arrow (next to File menu) - design utilities.
Just wondering, when your colleague says HUGE, what actual file sizes is he seeing? About DXP 2004. We have just upgraded (last week), however won't be using it until we upgrade our computers next month. The libraries that come with 2004 look to be quite comprehensive, both schematic and footprint. So at this early stage, I am really unsure as to how we might integrate our 99se libs with 2004's, or whether we will at all. None of our libraries have simulation models attached, I think that many of the 2004 libraries might do, so that may influence what we do as well. I don't know yet! What I would like to be able to do is somehow link 2004 libraries into our database, however, our database system is an archaic dos based "Relational Database System" that won't relate to anything! Anyway, once we've had time to have a look at what our options are, I'll certainly be back to this forum to ask some questions. About 2004 version control. It does interface to sourcesafe (and others), so you still need to use your existing version control software for centralised version control. If you don't want to have a centralised version control, 2004 does provide a locally based version control. Sometimes even waiting for the process to stop afetr a long session.
