Hey Leo,

Don't you love marketing? So far our guys haven't realized that we can get
PCBs in colors other than green w/white silkscreen ;-).

That's one of the disadvantages of our small team: it's very difficuilt to hide _any_ information....

We've used a product called Qualecad. It makes pretty nice 3d visualizations
within Protel, especially if you model up all the various components. It
shows components, traces, vias, pads, silkscreen and it will let you turn
on/off these items. My only complaints are if you try to export as idf. Arcs
are exported as a series of line segments, and in several cases we found the
components in the exported assembly had been rotated. The exported 3d shows
the size/shape only, not the traces, silkscreen etc.

Steve also mentioned that program. I tried it, and it looks great. Really. Maybe I'll get the supervisor to approve a purchase..... Too bad the solder reflow feature acts only on pads and not on other stuff in the soldermask, but that can be sort of helped with the lighting (at least it looks like tinned). Don't need the export features, just a few screen snapshots will do for now.

Thanks for the tips, the ball is back in the sales court.
