Obviously this, and many other, universities are charging far to much money
for their courses if they can afford to merely dump such items without
giving thought to recycling.
For an institution full of "intellects" they're certainly carrying on with
the expedience of a bunch of "dumb-asses"

Ah, yes! Well, you NEVER know what you'll come across.
I go through the dumpsters here at Washington University when I
have the time and inclination. One day it will be pizza boxes,
the next day, a pile of digital oscilloscopes. I flipped a Nicolet
transient digitizer on eBay for $100, all I had to do was clean the
plastic in front of the CRT. I got an HP 100 MSa/sec 2 chan
digital scope in perfect working order, but I'm going to KEEP
that one! I got a complete SGI IRIS workstation with one bad
board, and a guy in Germany sent me all the boards out of his system
for a nominal fee. Tons of other stuff, from full rolls of wire
to big metal pieces for the scrap bin in the shop. A bunch of
usable, but a little old Pentium computers, some I am still using.
A bunch of really fine CAD/CAM monitors that are still in use
on some of my computers. But, you'll never know what will be
there on any trip.

Jon
