"To catch up will require a herculean effort, given that tax increases is virtually out of the question." -------- _If_ this is correct, then all 'moderate' (or "social democratic" or "realist") left strategies are hopelessly utopian. The kind of mass movement required will have to organize around such slogans as "Open Borders," "Abolish the Prison System," "No troops abroad," "Disarm the Police." As a French sociologist, whose name I forget, said some 50 years ago, The Workers will not go to the barricade over 5000 new housing units." If someone can produce a reasonable scenario for a achieving in the next decade a national minimum wage of $20 (current dollar), free medical and dental care, and decent housing for African Americans and migrants, then my proposed slogans are unreal; if not, they are essential. I'm waiting for someone to propose a concrete and realistic electoral strategy to stop police killings and get the U.S. out of the Middle East: that I a minimum for a decent world. Carrol
