heheee...sure, it would utterly terrify one half and the other half would
kill the thread. :)

Yes, interesting....particularly the gender linguistics.

Ok, so Grod and the boys over in P5P are busy clubbing themselves so what
sorts of forums/lists/resources would be enticing to women?

They don't even need to be polite but if they toned down the pedantic
self-wanking arrogant one-upsmanship some of the time it would be a lot
less migrane inducing. :)

*>Why would I be interested in limiting the use of Perl to 50% of the

Actually, we are about 54% nowadays :D

*>The question to my mind is, what else can we do to build forums in which

Well, I'm about to announce the perl-lingua list for the word freaks. I
picked up the OUP book of 20th Century words the other day and figure, if
nothing else, I'll get to examine a word each day with tidbits from the
rest ot the community thrown in. So civilised that we're serving Earl Grey
at 4p, sharp. :)

*>Yes, we mustn't forget that the false stereotypes are based on true ones.
*>The way forward is not to deny the differences between men and women
*>(or anyone else) but to make practial use of those differences. TMTOWTDI.

Indeed.

*>Why? Your soapbox is just the sort of pedestal we should put women on.

eep, anything more than 4 feet high and I get queasy as I'm terrified of
heights :)

*>I agree that a lot of Perl culture seems like it should have a lot of
*>appeal to women. Particularly if it can function as a "leg up" into
*>other fields. If we can figure out the spots where we're turning the
*>women off, maybe we can do something about it, and be more helpful to
*>more people. Not to mention being an example to others.

Exactly. The numbers are so askew that it's bizarre...there were more
chicks in chemistry which is really saying something. Geeks have a
reputation of being nerdy little jerks.

I don't think Tom or Ilya would go for the estrogen shots so perhaps there
are ways to bring forth the 'kinder, gentler Perl community'.

*>So keep talking. (That's not an order, it's more of a pretty please and
*>thank you with chocolate-coated sugar bombs on top.)

Throw in a raw shank of bison for me to gnaw on and we're good :) I don't
scare too easily. And thanks for making my day...some days I feel like I'm
talking to a void and it's nice to know that I still speak English in an
understandable form.
