I have interviewed several male Perl programmers that work for two
companies that actually develop products and services completely with Perl
(see our website perl.oreilly.com for the Perl Success stories on Advanced
data Engineering and IX development labs) about how they process
information and they have all said that work is a competitive, charged
environment (thus making sitting down and reading a book difficult ). They
want to "fix the next bug", get that piece of code running smoothly, they
are racing to beat the clock. I was surprised by the answer but upon
reflection, based on the discussion in my previous email, made sense.
So you are a female programmer, why do you like programming? Was your Mom
a programmer? What kindled your interest?

But it does start at home with "Mom" as I described in my previous email.
So somehow we need to fix "Mom" and things will begin to change.
