Just an update to anyone else considering this....
Updates are coming thick and fast. So far I've always been able to boot
into the GUI (which wasn't true of 7.04/7.10 betas), although last night
I lost my sound (I guess) due to an ALSA update. I won't worry about it
unless it isn't fixed in the next couple of days.
So: I'd advise any novices thinking of playing with 8.04 before its
release that you're probably better off waiting for the release, but
broadly speaking I'm happy so far with the way its progressing. No major
changes, but lots of incremental stuff.
It's been very quiet from Stuart since his upgrade, are we to assume
he's broken it and now off-line? :-)
