ALSA updates always seem to break for me in the alphas so it was just

Yes, it's working fine now.

If I were in the team releasing the updates I might even plan to break systems every so often just to remind people it is an alpha/beta process. Otherwise you'll get loads of people treating 8.04 pre-release the way they treat Debian "Unstable" (ie fine for every day use, which is generally true of Debian Unstable but not of Ubuntu pre-releases).

Therefore I was not concerned that the system broke, but slightly concerned that conversations here may have encouraged people to upgrade prematurely.

As for me, the Nvidia issue seems to be an ongoing bug for my card. I
found the bug report on the Nvidia site. From what I can tell, the
people in the forum feel that they are not going to fix the bug since
it works fine in the newer cards.

Is that an Nvidia bug (ie up to Nvidia to fix), or something the Ubuntu team are ignoring? It sounds like the former but I'd like to be sure.

I still have problems with my X config not properly achieving 1400x1050, but I'll worry about that after the release; it's nothing to do with Ubuntu I'm sure.
